West Avenue Cider Cherry Beach

by | Jul 8, 2015

By Erin James

Nobly noted as “country tradition meets big city lights,” Toronto, Ontario-based West Avenue Cider is driven by creative culinary force and innovative cider maker Chris Haworth. Alongside his wife Amy Robson, Haworth’s West Avenue Cider launched in 2013 and the duo began to experiment immediately with 100 percent Ontario heritage fruit, wild fermentations and cheeky flavor combinations.

The British-born former chef’s cidery is best known for its limited-release and small-batch barrel-aged ciders, like the Cherry Beach. Nearly lambic and completely unique, this sour sipper ferments heirloom apples with Niagara Montmorency cherries and ages the juices together in Pinot Noir barrels for a butter-cream textured, red apple, cherry and resin-flavored cider. Fraught with daring methods and equivalent flavors, this audacious cider has the frills to thrill any cider buff and bring in the beer geeks with it.
