Hidden away in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains lies Wild Hare Hard Cider’s essence. The Bluemount, Virginia, cidery was started on a “wild hare,” but some ideas are worth perusing. The team is following its dream, albeit wild, with fruits reigning from the Shenandoah Valley. The ciders are billed as are not comparable to anything you’ll find sitting on the shelf at your local grocery store. This highly seasonal release is called Ophelia, a lightly dry-hopped cider with a tropical, sour fleshy taste of fallen grapefruit, along with a juicy apple flavor. In the addition to easy acid, the sip takes the 7 percent ABV and disguises it to a point where it’s making this cider dangerously delicious and perfect for the sunny time of the year.
A great addition to this summer’s list of must-try seasonal ciders, the cider radiates a dense, fruitful flavor along with a crisp, refreshing bite making you want to stay out in the sun, even if you’re already lobster-red. Get it while it’s hot (er, cold), because it’ll be flying off the shelves.
