In the fields of his family’s old dairy farm in upstate New York, Original Sin Hard Cider founder Gidon Coll cultivates his very own Garden of Eden – a maze of temptation boasting 70 apple varieties. Original Sin cider makers brew the fresh-pressed bounty in small batches and do away with artificial flavors, allowing the apples’ sweetness and tartness to battle for center stage. However, the battle appears to be futile, as the resulting lineup of five hard ciders is well balanced and smooth.
In addition to its original and Heirloom Series ciders, Original Sin offers two all-natural flavored variations, including the newest Elderberry Cider. The acidity of the cider apples hits crisp and dry, and the addition of elderberries layers in another sweet/tart power play. The light effervescence adds a subtle, fuzzy mouth feel, merging the apple and berry flavor profiles into harmony. When it comes to cider, Original Sin’s fruity spinoffs, sarcastically biblical moniker and affinity for pin-up girl poster art to compliment each cider’s attitude just might make glutton a bit more acceptable.
