Cider Riot! Everybody Pogo

Pressing juice as a kid with the family in the northern Yamhill County of Oregon. Fermenting college dining hall apples in a dorm closet. Covering beer and cider for various Oregon publications. Cider maker Abram Goldman-Armstrong has never been too far from the cider scene, and is now the owner of Cider Riot!, an urban cidery in Portland, Oregon.

Open a bottle of Cider Riot! Everybody Pogo and you might have to take a double whiff. The strong smell of hops immediately rushes up to the nose, as it would with a nice hoppy IPA. But behind those hops is the tangy zip of tart apples, a pleasant reminder of the cider in the freshly popped bottle. The sweet and sour effect of the apples is tamed by the full and distinctive flavor of Willamette Valley hops. Dry from fermenting with ale yeast, this cider has a low level of carbonation, but that subtle fizz come to full attention at the back of the throat, as the microscopic bubbles seem to roll, nay, pogo their way across the tongue. “Our rough cut tribute to football terraces and punk rock,” the taste couldn’t be summed up any better.
