Admit it Washington, you are beautiful. The sun is out, the trees are green, and the temperatures are at that perfect point of not being too hot, but not too mild either. It is the perfect time to go out and explore some of Washington’s most iconic islands. If you need even more convincing besides their sheer beauty, Orcas Island’s Cider and Mead Festival may help to get you out of the door.

This event, which will take place on June 27, will feature ciders and meads that originate from California to Canada (with plenty of Oregon and Washington in between). This will be the fifth annual festival, with each year gaining in size and popularity. The festival will have plenty of ciders and meads to try, as well as live music and fermentation demos to witness.

While you are there, you will be happy to know that your purchases will be going toward a great program on the Island. The Farm to Cafeteria program teaches about nutrition, food differences and healthy cooking techniques. It is taught throughout classrooms, cafeterias and farms. So by getting your fill on cider and mead, you are also encouraging healthy living, so drink up!

The festival will feature up to 19 producers of cider and mead, offering a large variety in styles and tastes. Some big names, such as Seattle Cider and Rogue will be in attendance, as well as local favorites Finnriver and Honey Moon.

The festival is only two weeks away, so start planning your cider weekend getaway now!
