Salem, Oregon’s Wandering Aengus Ciderworks uses heirloom apple varieties and fosters a strong relationship between cidermaker and fruit when creating cider. The same approach is used for their second brand, Anthem Cider, but with widely produced Washington and Oregon apples and, in this case, the cider is also aged in fellow Oregonian Ransom Spirits’ used bourbon barrels. The Anthem Blind Tiger Bourbon Barrel Aged Cider pours a pale, hazy yellow with little to no head. Light on the nose and features a dry smoky/oak body and a mildly acidic fruit finish. At 8 percent ABV, this cider manages to be light and bold at the same time, resulting in a satisfying cider sip.
