The Good Food Awards are back for the fifth year—and this time, the competition’s beer category is making room for some orchard loving.

Judges typically evaluate food and beverage entries under one of 11 categories, including beer, cheese, chocolate, coffee, spirits and charcuterie. This year, the Good Food Awards are expanding the usual categories to include handcrafted cider, kombucha and cocktail mixers.

Now through August 1, the panels invite food and beverage producers nationwide to submit their most exceptional products—in terms of flavor, as well as sustainable production. The Good Food Awards recognize beverages and bites that are not only top-notch in taste, but are also made without synthetic inputs, maintain transparency with the community regarding production processes, and take care to support local economies.

Community and environmentally-minded ciders made with pesticide-free apples will be considered with open arms and open lips, and a blind tasting panel of 200 industry professionals will select individual category winners in September.

Leading up to the announcement of the 2015 Good Food Awards winners in San Francisco on January 8, the Good Food Roadshow will be traveling across the country to celebrate locally made products by region.
