6 Berry Ciders to Transition Out of Dry January

by | Jan 27, 2020

Easing back into cider after Dry January? Transition with these fruited ciders that are infused or co-fermented with berry fruits, such as raspberries, blueberries and blackberries.

Cider Creek Hard Cider Loganberry

A core item for the New York State farm cidery, apples are fermented with Belgian saison yeast and blended with purée of loganberry — a hybrid of raspberry and blackberry. The texturally rich and tart cider shows as much fruit on the palate as it glows pink in the glass. Match with a classic chèvre-and-cracker combo. | 6.9% ABV | 12oz | $10/4-pack

Brick River Cider Co. Sweet Lou’s

St. Louis’ first cidery is founded on the family’s multigenerational Midwest homestead, growing apples since 1869. Regional fruit is fermented and blended with crushed local blueberries and lavender tea in Sweet Lou’s, an inherently floral and medium-dry pink cider perfect for the summer season. | 5% ABV | 16oz | $10/4-pack

2 Towns Ciderhouse Two Thorns

Produced in collaboration with the Portland Thorns FC in Oregon, this cider features local raspberries and rose petals blended into a fresh-pressed Northwest apple base. A floral and berry-forward sip, this vibrantly hued collab finishes fragrant, juicy and off-dry. Pair with outdoor sports-watching. | 6.2% ABV | 500ml | $5

ÆeppelTreow Winery & Distillery Blackbird

Fresh black currant and elderberry juices make their way into this culinary apple base, named for the birds that live in and around the nearby orchards. The berries come through first and foremost, with yeasty apple, tickling acid and berry tartness in the semisweet finish. Find a patio, pop a top and get ready to crush a couple cans.  | 5.5% ABV | 12oz | $11/4-pack

Alter Ego Cider Guardian Angel

If summertime in the Pacific Northwest could be bottled, it might taste like this cider. Apples are handpicked, pressed, fermented and blended with blueberries and pomegranate for a deep purple cider of fresh, brambly fruit, bold blueberry and chipper pomegranate. Great for grilling meats or mixing with gin and a lime. | 6.5% ABV | 500ml | $8

Ash & Elm Cider Co. Fleeting Youth

A rotating, seasonal cider for the Indianapolis producer, this semisweet, berry-laced drink brings the additional flavors to the apple base during secondary fermentation, when fresh raspberry purée and lemon juice and zest are added to the mix. Reminiscent of raspberry lemonade. | 6.4% ABV | 12oz | $11/4-pack
