Putting Huckle in Your Berry Cider

by | Aug 20, 2019

While considered rare among berries, the huckleberry is making a not-so-rare appearance in cideries and breweries across North America. There’s no need to traverse a mountain or journey through meadows to find the blueberry cousin this summer, many makers are discovering it and using it to create flavorsome and creative ciders.

What better way to spend August and September than sipping a huckleberry cider while enjoying some sunshine, right? From Idaho to Northern California, huckleberry ciders are popping up all over. Fresh with a tart and sweet taste, these three cideries and one brewery are producing strong huckleberry ciders that are perfect in the summer.

Huckleberry | Greenwood Cider Co.

Located in North Seattle, Greenwood Cider Co. is a small cidery making a name for itself with this popular cider in particular. The Huckleberry cider is Greenwood’s most in-demand offering, this drink a true replica of the berry: tart and slightly sweet. Harvested by the owners themselves in the nearby Cascade Mountains, this sip is the perfect way to end a day of hiking in the mountains where these berries can be found.

Huckleberry | One Tree Hard Cider

Based in Spokane, Washington, this cider is one of One Tree Hard Cider’s core flavors. Well balanced and tarty, it is sold year round in one of the five states that One Tree Hard Cider sells in and will soon be made available in Colorado, along with the rest of the core flavors. Made from locally grown ingredients, the cider house proudly pours this opulent and flavorsome bevvie.

Huckleberry | Two Rivers Cider

Aiming to draw attention to the fruit of the cider, this cidery adds no sugar into its product, thus allowing the consumer to fully taste the fruit it uses. Located in Sacramento, California, Two Rivers Cider admits this may be on the sweeter side, courtesy of the namesake berry. Having spent 20 years producing cider, Two Rivers opened its tasting room in Sacramento in 2016 where you can find this cider, rich in flavor yet mellow and sweet, perfect for a night in.

Huckleberry | Edge Brewing Co.

Don’t let the fact that Edge Brewing Co. primarily produces beer fool you, they produce more than just the suds. Based in Boise, Idaho, Edge has three homegrown brewers collaborating together to create refreshing and fun beverages. Labeled “The Idaho Cider” due to huckleberries being the state fruit, there is no better way to celebrate being in Idaho — or gviing the Gem State a nod — then having this cider. Edge Brewing has a brewery and restaurant in downtown Boise where the cider can be tasted and celebrated.
