Almost two years ago, the first fermentations for Shoal Hope Ciderworks were bubbling in its Provincetown, Massachusetts, production space. The cidery, which founded in concept two years prior, formally launched in June 2017 with a taproom that opened this March, taking its name from the original title of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
From the short yet diversified line-up, Empty Barrel is a dry cider aged in American whiskey barrels for up to six weeks, bringing modest characteristics of that empty barrel into the cider. Think vanilla, texture from the oak tannin and soft spice — but showcasing that more on the palate, while the nose boasts bold, robust yellow apple aromas you can smell at a distance from the glass. The mouthfeel is broad and focused on those same fruits, with some green apple in the finish, sealing dry and clean but round and full.
