If you only know Sonoma for its wine industry, you’re missing out on a blossoming beer and cider culture. Take the aptly-named Sonoma Cider for example, which was named one of “The Hottest Startups of 2013” by Forbes magazine and boasts rustic-titled cider varieties like its pear cider The Pitchfork or its bourbon barrel Anvil. Part of its limited series is a particularly unique cider, a naturally flavored sarsaparilla vanilla cider dubbed The Washboard. This amber-colored concoction is fruit forward, with a crisp apple burst and notes of stone fruit, honey and light, tart citrus. This slides into the signature sarsaparilla/root beer and smooth vanilla tag team that’s slightly dry and slightly creamy.
