Tampa, Florida-based Cigar City Cider & Mead opened its doors in 2014 as a cider and mead bar in the historic Ybor City neighborhood, under the tutelage of its big brother and award-winning brewery, Cigar City Brewing. Since then, the cider house has produced numerous ciders and meads to call their own—the meads being made with 100-percent natural Florida-grown ingredients and the ciders based on Washington State apples. The diverse selection of cider, mead and beer is exclusively offered in their taproom (along with half a dozen guest taps), but as the company looks to expand with canning and bottling, one cider to seek out is the Wise Prick.
When you pop the bottle and take your first whiff, aromas hint at green apple and fresh cut grass of warmer summer days. Composed of elderflower and cactus infusions, the cider is sweet, floral, and crisp upon first sips. The medium-bodied finish completes this off-dry cider, perfect for those who like their craft cider a little more fruit-forward and honeyed.
