From West to East and everywhere in between, the craft cider industry is continuing to expand with each sip. As our palates develop, so do the cidermakers and signatures cider that bring us back for more. According to recent Nielsen data released at CiderCon, local and regional cider was up nearly 40 percent in 2016, with each state seeing cideries pop up nearby. Expand your cider reach with these four new cideries in different regions of the South.
Urban Tree Cidery | Atlanta, GA
Known as Atlanta’s first craft cidery, Urban Tree became official to the public March of last year. Prior to the founding of Urban Tree, owners Tim and Maria Resuta became certified Master Cider Makers through the Cider and Perry Academy in Gloucestershire, England. The Resuta’s extensive knowledge of cider shines through each signature and seasonal concoction in their 4,500-square-foot tasting room. Each cider is crushed, pressed and bottled on site allowing customers to view the process while sipping on Urban Tree blends.
Atlanta Hard Cider Co. | Atlanta, GA
Another spot to add to the cider map is newly founded Atlanta Hard Cider Co. Level one-certified with the United States Association of Cider Makers, Atlanta Cider utilizes European and Pacific Northwestern best practices to create their fresh-pressed cider. Current features include semi-sweet, dry and pomegranate hard cider with ginger and dry hop in future plans. Atlanta Cider’s facilities will begin construction this year and is said to be up and running come spring. Better get ready ATL, the hard cider scene is flourishing quickly.
Bishop Cider Co.’s Cidercade | Dallas, TX
Back in 2014, owners Joel and Laura Malone started Bishop Cider Co. when they became fed up with mass-produced cider that surrounded them in Dallas. Fast-forward three years and now Bishop Cider operates two locations including the newly opened Cidercade. The Design District location originally served as a production-only facility that was closed to the public. Opening in December, Bishop’s Cidercade is home to more than 100 arcades and up to 12 house ciders on tap. Family friendly until 8 p.m. with just a small entry fee of $10, you’ll be able to play as many games and sip as many ciders as your heart desires.
BROSKI Ciderworks | Pompano Beach, FL
What began as an idea by two brothers became a full-blown endeavor January of this year for BROSKI Ciderworks. The pair has spent more than six years developing their skills in cidermaking by learning everything and anything they could about the fermentation process. Upon the official ribbon cutting at the end of January, BROSKI has a variety of plans in the works for this year. The South Florida taproom will host local food trucks, rotating with limited cider releases, family-friendly events and games and activities that pair perfectly with cider. Plus, the taproom will feature six guest beers for the non-cider drinkers of the bunch.
