10 Ciders and Perries to Sip This Summer

by | Aug 15, 2023

Summertime calls for light, refreshing sips and cider is the perfect fit! Everything from rosé ciders, semi-sweet, off-dry and sparkling perries are on the menu this summer, whether you’re enjoying a drink by the river or winding down in the backyard on a warm summer’s evening. Below, find 10 recommendations from the Seattle-based Press Then Press Cider Shop to enjoy all season long.

Little Pomona Hard Rain Perry-Quette | Herefordshire, England

This low ABV, highly flavorful summertime crusher is made ciderkin/piquette style using the rehydrated pomace of perry pears and wine grapes made from a co-ferment. It’s tropical on the nose with a creaminess thanks to the perry pears — making for the ideal tart, refreshing drink.

Alpenfire Cider Glow | Port Townsend, WA

This cider made from Airlie Red Flesh apples in northwest Washington recently received the Best in Class award from the Northwest Cider Association for its 2022 vintage. And for good reason! It’s tart, juicy and perfect for summertime sipping.

Tilted Shed Ciderworks This Cider Fights Fascism | Windsor, CA

This cider made from a blend of organic Pink Pearl, Golden Delicious, Gold Rush, Jonathan, Wickson, Arkansas Black and Macintosh apples is a great crushable canned cider. It benefits an important and worthy cause with 25 percent of the proceeds donated to Black Voters Matter and The States Project

Empyrical Orchard & Cidery Principle Perry | Snohomish, WA

Another big time award winner from Cidercraft and Glintcap this year, this is an elevated fine perry. It’s semi-dry with medium acidity, making it perfect for any summertime food pairing

Eden’s Specialty Ciders Deep Cut | Newport, VT

This dry cider is full-bodied with notes of citrus, peach and black tea. For our money, it’s the best of the many great canned ciders from Eden.

Peak Light Cider Orchard Reserve Quince | Portland, OR

This is a delightful, semi-dry cider with a beautiful expression of quince. We don’t have this in the Press Then Press Cider Shop, but we certainly just stocked up on a recent Portland trip and have some we can share.

Western Cider McIntosh | Missoula, MT

This cider is made from legendary McIntosh apples from Montana’s Bitterroot Valley. We just tried this again last week and, oh my gosh, it never disappoints. We don’t carry this one at Press Then Press, but we sure wish we did!

Offset Ciderworks Off Dry | Mountlake Terrace, WA

Made with Washington apples and pears, this cider is light and refreshing for any occasion. It’s our go-to when we need to pack the cooler or stuff a six-pack in the golf bag.

Nashi Orchards D’Anjou Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Perry | Vashon, WA

This is a pleasantly sweet, full-bodied sparkler. It’s deliciously refreshing on its own and also makes for a killer mocktail. Another option? Throw in a shot of mezcal or tequila and a dash of lime juice for an incredibly easy and delicious margarita.

Liberty Ciderworks Widdershins Pommeau | Spokane, WA

Pommeau might not scream “summer” but we’ve confirmed this is a perfect bottle to share around a campfire in the backyard on a warm summer evening. It’s made with Manchurian crabapple juice and blended with apple brandy, making for a well-balanced apéritif.
