Inaugural PDX Community Apple Drive from Portland Cider Co

by | Aug 10, 2016

Portland Cider Company is coordinating the inaugural PDX Community Apple Drive, calling upon the Portland community for backyard apples to hand-press into a community cider to support a local charity. The apple drive is collecting bushels of unwanted fruit August 1 thru the end of October.

This full-scale community effort is about bringing people together to create handmade craft cider, using the apples from your own backyards in the Portland Metro area. Bringing together cider, community, tradition and charity in Portland Cider Company’s first ever Community Cider release, Oregon Wild.

Why “Oregon Wild?” Because 100% of the net proceeds of the cider created & sold as part of the PDX Community Apple Drive will be donated to the organization Oregon Wild. This conservation non-profit works to protect and restore Oregon’s wildlands, wildlife and waters as an enduring legacy for all Oregonians. Portland Cider Company recently joined as the first cidery in the coalition of brewers that makes up the Oregon Brewshed Alliance, an outreach initiative for Oregon Wild.

To support the efforts of Oregon Wild & Oregon Brewshed Alliance, Portland Cider Company is organizing this inaugural PDX Community Apple Drive, modeling a successful drive held in the Eugene area the last couple of years. Portland Cider Company invites you to bring your fallen and unwanted fruit in exchange for Portland Cider trade. And when the time comes, you also get to help with the pressing of the apples you brought in.
