Summerland Heritage Cider Co. Porter’s Dry

by | Jun 22, 2016

When three friends and orchardists came together to form Summerland Heritage Cider Co., they had the apple scene down on lock: The last step towards cider was, well, mastering the art of cidermaking. Challenge accepted. Now, with a collection of three simple yet thoughtful sippers—a classic English, a dry-style and a slightly sweet sipper—you could say they’ve succeeded. Through a Canadian lens, the Summerland, British Columbia-based cidery continues to build upon said cider collection, drawing off of European cider scene influences along the way.

A mainstay for the cidery, the Porter’s Dry obtained its namesake and recipe from Porter’s Perfection, an apple discovered by Charles Porter. The variety dates back to the 1850s and in the cider, the star apple lends clear, acidic aromas to the golden-hued sipper. A pop of bubbles and a lingering of bready notes warm the palate for a rounded, satisfying experience that Charles himself would be proud (and envious) of.
